Provider Trainings on HIV/AIDS & Adolescents, and Gay and Lesbian Youth
The Adolescent AIDS Program at Montefiore Medical Center is a national, state and local resource for health care providers and policy makers concerned about the health of adolescents. The program serves as the adolescent core of the New York/New Jersey AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) and is able to provide its trainings free of charge through support from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

The AAP emphasizes training minority providers as well as providers serving minority populations.

HIV/AIDS disproportionately affects minority youth: 50 percent of male and 75 percent of female HIV-positive youth respectively are racial/ethnic minorities, and the majority of young HIV-positive males are in minority sexual orientation groups. Therefore, the unique service needs of these populations are emphasized in all AAP trainings.

Trainings are conducted by a variety of professionals including physicians, psychologists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and social workers. AAP trainings focus on HIV-related health issues for youth, including:
• The benefits of early intervention and enhancing adherence to prevent HIV-related complications
• HIV counseling and testing and risk reduction issues relating to adolescents
• The latest information on clinical practices and treatment
• Psychosocial issues

Presentations can be tailored to fit your needs. Staff members from AAP have presented information or consulted in a variety of settings including:
• Conferences
• Grand rounds
• Clinical meetings
• Program Development
• Preceptorships
